The EQUEL Project

The Networked Learning 2004 Conference is the main dissemination event for the EQUEL project. There are 5 symposia and 4 papers presented at the conference by the EQUEL consortium.

EQUEL stands for ‘e-quality in e-learning’. The aim of the EQUEL project is to foster European knowledge and understanding of the effects of e-learning practice, theory and philosophy by building a research and practitioner network of experts working in the field.

The overall intention of the EQUEL project has been to establish a dual mode virtual centre and space for sharing ongoing work and developing collaborative project activities with other researchers and practitioners. The main work of the project has been done within 7 special interest groups (SIGs)

The project is coordinated by Lancaster University in the UK and involves 14 partner institutions from 6 different European countries. These intuitions are: Lancaster University, University of Coventry, University of Glasgow, University of Sheffield, Université Catholique de Louvain, Université de Liège, Learning Lab Denmark in association with Roskilde University, Aalborg University, Université Lumière (Lyon II), E.M.Lyon, Göteborg University, Karolinskja Institutet, Université de Genève and Université de Fribourg.

The themes of the 7 EQUEL SIGs are:

SIG 1 - Implementing e-learning at the institutional level

SIG 2 - Communication and control in e-learning environments

SIG 3 - Theory led designs for e-learning communities and collaborative learning

SIG 4 - Tutor and trainer's roles in new forms of e-learning environments

SIG 5 - The Agora SIG: Supporting knowledge sharing across cultures via virtual interactive activity

SIG 6 - The theory and practice of computer supported collaborative learning

SIG 7 - “ASPI” Model for pedagogy - Sustaining e-learning innovation
